Sounds of the Saltmarsh

We were delighted to welcome Dr Jane Pettegree, Lecturer (Education Focussed) and Advisor of Studies at the Laidlaw Music Centre, to the Plant Hub Polytunnel and for a visit to the nearby Saltmarsh, one day in mid January. It was a chance to ‘see’ the saltmarsh and propagation hub through our ears.

Dr Pettegree spent the day at one of our volunteering sessions, joining in and recording some of the everyday and often overlooked sounds of plant propagation and saltmarshes. Dr Pettegree’s interest is in the importance of sound as a way to integrate yourself into your surroundings and connect to place.

From footsteps, passing cars, running water, wind, cupboards being opened and closed, the squelch of mud and sound of soil being shovelled, there is much to hear and identify.
